Program Description
The Kresge Unit at Edgewood Children’s Center offers an alternative to hospitalization for children and adolescents who are in need of intensive stabilization in order to maintain placement in their current living environment. Through this secure, intensive unit, we are able to offer a higher level of normalcy than a traditional hospital unit, while still providing the utmost in acute, intensive treatment for the client.
Children and adolescents can be referred to the Kresge Unit through local psychiatrists and counselors, community case workers and individual parents with private insurance.
Treatment model
Clients benefit from a completely structured day, including a full school day, intensive treatment services provided by a Master’s level licensed clinician and structured activities for the remainder of the day. Psychiatric services and a 24-hour nursing staff are available each day. The unit houses children and adolescent males and females for up to one month. Our goal is to stabilize while providing a continuation of education in the process. We strive to increase the feeling of normalcy the client has while in treatment, with a full school day, dressing out in regular clothes and regular, flexible visitation and therapy with the clients’ families.
