Residential Treatment
At Edgewood, we work hard to change the lives of the 20 children who live and attend school in an open campus setting as part of our Residential Treatment Program.
Overview
The Residential Treatment Program at Edgewood Children’s Center is dedicated to the treatment of children and adolescents who have experienced extensive trauma and who struggle with the debilitating effects of a variety of emotional disturbances. Treatment at Edgewood is intensive and is designed to individually address each child’s psycho-social and educational needs.
Residential Treatment is designed to serve children and adolescents who have diagnoses such as:
- Major Depression
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Oppositional-Defiant Disorder
- Bi-polar Disorder
- Reactive Attachment Disorder
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
Services are focused and individually customized for children and adolescents who need stabilization and treatment. Services may include:
- Individual, group and family therapy
- Special education in an on-campus school
- Nursing, psychiatric, medical, psychosocial, and educational evaluation consultation
- Physical education and recreation therapy
- Occupational, speech, language, art and music therapies
- Social skills and life skills training
Demographics
- New admissions are generally girls, ages 5-17, and boys, ages 5-13
- Children represent over 23 school districts and more than 20 counties across Missouri
Outcomes in 2008
- 73 individual children were served
- 86% of those children were moved to a less restrictive living environment
- All children received individual therapy twice weekly
- All children received group therapy three times per week
- 81% of children made progress toward their individual treatment goals
