Psychiatric Technician
Position Summary:
This position provides for the emotional and physical well-being and intellectual care of children in an Acute Intensive Unit. Observes and evaluates day-to-day functioning of children; and participates actively in staff meetings and reports. The Psychiatric Technician will work directly with Therapists, medical staff and Teachers as member of treatment team to coordinate services to children. External contacts include parents/guardians for information transfer and coordination of services, and referral agency workers to provide information.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors children to provide for security and intervention as necessary.
- Plans/Implements activities for and supervises children in non-classroom settings.
- Helps children with their personal hygiene, such as keeping clothing and living areas clean
- Completes documentation, including Unit Log entries, Treatment Progress notes, critical incident reports and documentation for Discharge Treatment Plan Reviews.
- Participates in various meetings and serves as member of treatment team.
- Fulfills all internal and external job-training requirements.
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge necessary to successfully fulfill this position's responsibilities include knowledge of mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, emotionally disturbed, behavior disordered children, and behavior management techniques.
- Skills required include crisis intervention and decision-making skills. Self-awareness, patience, and the ability to work as part of a team is required.
- CPR/First Aid certifications are required.
- Credential normally associated with competency in this position is a Bachelor's degree in a Human Service field and/or two years of on the job experience.
- Valid class E driver's license and good driving record strongly preferred as transporting children is an essential function of this position.
- Ability to respond appropriately to cultural differences that exists among Great Circle's diverse client base.
