Cook
Position Summary:
Prepares meals and maintains daily nutritional needs for residents and staff members in the dining room. This position reports to the Food Service Director.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains the daily nutritional and special dietary needs of the children in residence and at school.
- Prepares food to the extent required for baking, cooking and serving.
- Moves selected food items from storage areas to the food preparation area.
- As needed, coordinates food for special events and interacts with staff and outside personnel/guests.
- Checks to make certain that instructions contained in menus and recipes are carefully expedited.
- Stands in front of the stove and bakes or cooks the food items, returns unopened food items to storage area.
- Cleans work areas after each meal; engages in special cleaning assignments as noted in instructions.
- Places leftovers in containers with proper labeling and moves leftovers to storage areas.
- Coordinates distribution of in-kind food donations for agency use.
- Completes all JCAHO and training requirements.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a four year high school or GED.
- ServSafe Certification required.
- Relevant experience in a restaurant or institutional kitchen with demonstrated skills in cooking/baking.
- Extraordinary appreciation for cleanliness, personal hygiene, and sanitary conditions.
- Ability to move sixty pounds in sixty seconds.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Possess a current, valid driver's license and meets the Great Circle requirements for insurance.
